There's always one..

Hey everyone,  I realise my little blog has been a bit neglected these past few weeks. My love of fashion has been laid up in hospital, and is getting a bit restless now.

It's not the ideal situation for creative thinking, so I thought I'd write instead a bit about where I currently find myself, and who with.

Drawing upon the lunchtime conversation today, I thought I'd share some of those inevitable features of hospital, any hospital.

I'd be interested to hear what particular memories or associations you'd add to the list!
  • Lights off before it gets dark. Lights back on before it gets bright.
  • Dinner at lunchtime, supper at dinner time, and breakfast in the middle of the night.
  • A table with the dimensions of a ruler and temperament of a shopping trolley, on which to store your entire life. Usually piled high with chocolate. And fizzy drinks.

  • A comedian. In the form of a patient.
  • Another comedian in the form of staff.
  • The patient who needs the window open 24/7 despite the weather. Then the one who needs it closed 24/7 despite the weather. And the one caught in the crossfire.
  • The private patient shoved in a public room, and not a bit happy about it.
  • The public patients listening to the private patient, and not a bit happy about it.
  • The one forced to wear the flimsy piece of material as replacement for the pyjamas they didn't bring.
  • The one who bought new co-ordinating pyjamas especially. And a dressing gown to match. (Would like to say this is me but afraid not).
  • Pedal bins that more than half the population can't use.
  • Squeaky wheels. Everywhere. On everything.
  • A continuous round-the-clock queue for the bathroom. Make that every bathroom.
  • Milky tea and soggy cornflakes. Or even vice versa. And a digestive biscuit to dunk.

  • A pile of last year's gossip magazines with remnants of the above tea and digestives.
  • And to save the best for last. My all time favourite. Peas. Peas. And more peas - the things most likely to put me in hospital had I not been there already!

Did we miss anything??

Radiance reviewed

Hi everyone,

So, I don't normally do reviews of beauty products here, as I leave that to my little sis over on her blog www.mamavoom.blogspot.ie.

But, I recently tried this product that all the beauty bloggers have been recommending, and thought I may as well share my experience with you.

The product, is the Boots Botanics All Bright Hydrating Day Cream. There are a few reasons I chose this product, partly because of the attention it has been receiving, partly because it was on special offer, and also I needed something for daily use in hospital..

I don't like bringing my more expensive products in with me, you know how easily things can be misplaced.

Also, I chose this one for its plastic container, a lot safer than glass for a small bedside locker.

So, first of all, the product itself lived up to its reputation -

  • gave a nice dewy finish, and was great to use with or without make up (who has time for make up in hospital, right?)
  • has a hint of pink to it but blends in nicely when applied. The glow is subtle compared to some other products I've tried which left me basically covered in glitter. Grand for a 14 year old, not so much for me
  • it has an SPF of 15, which is important even in our Irish summers
  • it was nice and gentle for my sometimes sensitive skin
  • in terms of moisturising, I needed to re-apply this a bit more than usual, but that could be down to the environment I was in more than anything else.

All in all, it was a worthwhile purchase, worth the price and lived up to its promises.

The only downside however, was that it tends to be a bit on the runny side, and so it didn't cope too well with being packed in a bag and thrown around - probably best to keep it for use at home, and store it upright if possible.

I've also now purchased the Radiance Balm, in the tube, and reckon this might be more practical for using on the go - it's a similar product but the packaging makes it more portable.

New shoes?

Hey everyone, check out these pretty little additions to my growing wishlist.

I came across these today in Debenhams, priced at €48.50.

navy flower motif flat mary janes

I find it so hard to get comfy stylish shoes I can actually walk in, and as far as my checklist goes, these seem to tick all the boxes -

  • Comfort
  • Easy to fasten strap (Velcro)
  • Flat heel but not too flat
  • Wide fit
  • Round toe
  • Non-slip sole
  • Soft comfortable sole
  • Pretty colours!
The price is pretty reasonable too, although they don't seem to be included in the sale. Typical of me, always drawn to the new-in stock, like a magnet.

Anyway, the pink caught my attention initially, as usual, but the other colours would be great for Autumn. As it happens, they didn't have my size in stock, which is probably a blessing in disguise, might have come home with all three.

Think I feel a bit of online shopping coming on, if I can just decide on a colour... probably pink. Or maybe navy... ugh, can't cope.

  What do you guys think?
